Reception/Y1
Earhart Class
Keller Class
In our Reception Year 1 classes teaching is carefully crafted to blend the requirements of both EY and National Curriculum expectations.
Our Early Years and Year 1 mixed-age classes provide a highly nurturing and carefully structured environment where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Through expert teaching and well-planned learning experiences, we place a strong emphasis on developing secure foundational knowledge and skills that underpin future success.
Learning is thoughtfully sequenced to ensure children build strong early foundations in communication and language, early reading and writing, number, and understanding of the world. Our mixed-age approach allows children to learn from one another, fostering confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours, while ensuring each child is challenged and supported at the right level.
We combine high expectations with a play-rich, purposeful curriculum, ensuring that learning is engaging, meaningful, and rooted in strong early concepts. This approach enables every child to make excellent progress and transition confidently into the next stage of their education.
The children complete focused tasks throughout the week with an adult including reading, writing and number activities.
The children are observed in their play and teachers move their learning on.
Year 1 pupils are afforded the opportunity to access the provsion to embed learning at a Year 1 level. This is integrated with discrete teaching for maths and phonics, reading and writing. All other subjects are taught through topics which align with the Reception curriculum focus.
